For this year, the Festival will embrace the theme “Glorious Sriwijaya” or “Gemilang Sriwijaya”, celebrating the rich heritage and immense potential of the southern region of Sumatera (Sumatera bagian Selatan/ Sumbagsel), with a special focus on the provinces of Bangka Belitung Islands, Bengkulu, Jambi, Lampung and South Sumatera.

Rooted in the legacy of the Sriwijaya Empire, these provinces have a long history of international trade, maritime strength, and cultural exchange. Today, that legacy continues, offering immense potential for international partnerships, particularly between Indonesia and Australia. As a powerful maritime kingdom, Sriwijaya was once the hub of trade in Southeast Asia – an added value that enhances international interests in these provinces. This year’s Festival will be hosted in partnership with the Sriwijaya Community in Victoria.

Festival Indonesia 2025 aims to further strengthen Indonesia – Australia relations across various sectors, with a particular focus on the southern Sumatera provinces. Known for its rich cultural heritage, historical significance, and abundant economic resources, the Sumbagsel region presents attractive investment prospects in key sectors, such as energy, infrastructure and downstream industries. The region’s stunning natural landscapes and hidden tourism gems offer an added allure, anticipated to spark greater interest and engagement from the wider Australian public and stakeholders. This unique blend of natural wealth, growing economic potential, and captivating tourism appeal makes the Sumbagsel region as a compelling destination for investment and positions it well to become a major hub for economic growth.
